In a nutshell, the car wasn’t supposed to be sold, but Sam bought it from a Copart auction anyways. Now, Dominoes claims that he is committing trademark infringement because of their own mistake. It is very important that they do not win this.

This is not a good look for Dominos...

I didn’t think those cars were actually a thing and just a one off marketing gimmick.
Also he hit them hard with the “fill it with 80 pizzas.. take it to a school for children individuals with disabilities then the homeless” which puts Dominoes in the “Dominoes hates special needs kids and the homeless”.

The vehicle was legally auctioned, therefore Dominoes should have no legal standing in trying to sue him.
They fucked up, he gets to have a rare car.

What moron at Dominoes is going theough all this just to get a wrecked promo car back?

I can understand then not wanting the Domino’s logo and or paint sceme on it, but beyond that they can go blow goats
edit: further explanation: if he is driving that around, people will think he is driving for Domino’s, if he flips someone off, they will call domino and complain.

Apparently some stores actually used these, so it is more than just a promo vehicle.

Saw the video a bit ago as well - I don’t think they are suing him, yet, but the way I took it is they were threatening legal action unless he returns the car....except he LEGALLY owns it because he bought it fair and square at Copart as a salvage title car at auction and rebuilt it, so they are claiming him owning the car with their logos is some sort of breach of copyright.
I agree though - he OWNS the car, he is merely using it. It’s no different than all those donks dressed up like various chocolate bars, and you don’t see them getting sued...

Yeah no, trying to get a car back that was paid for legally at an auction for zero cost? That’s called stealing, Domino’s. Try again. Oh, and I’m not ordering Domino’s again.

A pizza delivery car is less than a promo vehicle.

I have urges to write a parody article about this car. Strong urges.
Because fair use.

If his videos are monetized fair use does not apply because he would be using the logo for profit. I don’t think it’s possible for them to repossess the car, but they will probably get their logo removed from it.

Make an offer to have every other YouTuber do a video with it. DeMuro, RCR, Smoking Tire, have De Vars fix something on it, etc....
Just to make Dominos angry.

Stupid move in an ultra-competitive industry. Another oblivious exec or three needs to be beaten to a pulp.

Some poor insurance adjuster will likely lose his job for selling the car in the first place. I’d say blame is split 85/15 between Copart and the insurance company that sold the car through them, respectively.

Even that isn’t true. You can profit from your own work that incorporates material that falls under fair use, otherwise tens of millions of books would be open to this.

I’ve been tweeting it out to people. Hopefully Jalopnik can do an article on it, and I’m sure Doug would love to show off it’s interesting quirks and features.

It’s counterintuitive as well. This is honestly better advertising for Dominoes than Dominoes itself, and it’s free. Every time I see the pizza car, I become more likely to get Dominoes in the near future.
